Sylvia Kingsmill, BA, LLB
National Partner, Regulatory, Privacy and Information Managment, Risk Consulting, KPMG
As the National Leader of the Privacy, Regulatory & Information Management practice at KPMG Canada, I provide strategic, risk-based privacy and data governance solutions to support major business transformations in alignment with new regulations, emerging technologies, and policy trends.
I specialize in corporate compliance and privacy program design and implementation in response to internal audits, regulatory findings and exams. I deal often with Canadian and US banking regulators as well as Data Protection Authorities involving multi-jurisdictional breach investigations.
I also operationalize complex regulations for the business and develop governance & risk strategies for large, multi-stakeholder initiatives. I’ve held Interim Chief Privacy Officer roles for various organizations.
Together with Dr. Ann Cavoukian, I created the the Privacy by Design Certification Program, and I’ve certified international brands for proof of compliance and as part of regulatory investigations.
In my role as the Canadian Chair and Head of Delegation for the ISO PC/317 Privacy by Design Committee for Consumer Goods and Services, soon to be ISO 31700, I shape technical standards to help organizations implement privacy and security-enhancing technologies, including AI, big data, IoT and machine learning initiatives.
